What does the FSC logo on our books mean?
FSC stands for ‘Forest Stewardship Council’.
The ‘tick tree logo’ is a signifier of a product that supports responsible forest management.
Our books that bear this label are made using a mixture of materials from FSC-certified forests, recycled materials, and/or FSC controlled wood. Using FSC certified paper, we are mitigating the risk of material originating from unacceptable sources, and helping to alleviate the pressure of demand on sources of virgin material.
So this means when you see the logo on our books, we have complied with the highest of standards to ensure the world’s forests are uncompromised in the creation of our product.
Why is it important to look out for the FSC label
on the books you buy?
In 2021 alone, the tropics lost nearly 11.1 million hectares of tree cover. That's close to ten soccer fields worth of trees per minute.
Sustainability is for everyone, not only the trees but also for animals & locals who call the forests their home.
Protecting biodiversity
For wildlife on land, there is no more valuable place than the forest. Branches and broad leaves of oak trees provide animals with shelter. Nuts from walnut trees and water from forest streams nourish them. And different shades of bark camouflage wildlife from predators. No wonder forests are home to more than three-quarters of the world’s life on land.
According to the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), biodiversity is now declining faster than ever before. FSC’s responsible forestry initiatives protect biodiversity in forests around the world.
Protecting the rights of indigenous people
Indigenous Peoples make up 5% of the world’s population, and yet safeguard 80% of its biodiversity. For generations, they have looked after the well-being of the Earth and will do so for generations to come. Responsible forestry does more than protect the health and resilience of forests—it also protects the well-being of the people who live and work in them. These people include community and family forest managers, Indigenous Peoples living on their ancestral lands, and workers whose livelihoods depend on forest products.
The FSC label ensures that the products you buy are from forests managed responsibly. And it means a future for both wildlife and people.
Every action we take to protect the world’s forests
makes a difference.
